What if the future leaves traces?
What if an event of sufficient magnitude does not simply send consequences forward through time, but creates a disturbance so profound that its reverberations travel in every direction, including backwards?
Begun in January 2026, Morphic Resonance is a series of more than thirty paintings by Tacha Reed exploring the possibility that memory, trauma and collective experience might exist beyond the boundaries of the individual mind. Drawing upon ideas of morphic resonance, retrocausality, collective consciousness and the strange human experience of premonition, Reed imagines time not as a straight line, but as a field – one capable of carrying echoes.
In this imagined landscape, a massive future event creates a kind of vacuum in the past. Its emotional force ripples backwards through the space-time continuum: an approaching wave sensed before it breaks. The collective mind responds without knowing why. Anxiety gathers. Patterns repeat. Something unseen is coming, yet somehow it has already happened.
Reed gives physical form to these invisible disturbances through imagery drawn from the volatile systems of the Earth: underwater fault lines shift and fracture; volcanoes erupt; gases escape from beneath the surface; unfamiliar storm systems gather and spiral. Rendered in acrylic and metallic watercolour on canvas, forms appear to emerge, dissolve and reorganize. Geological structures become anatomical; currents resemble neural pathways; atmospheric systems suggest memories, bodies and apparitions. At times it becomes difficult to tell whether we are looking down from above, beneath the ocean, through a microscope, or inward.
These paintings continue Reed’s long standing fascination with the ocean, ecology and the immense forces operating beneath apparently stable surfaces. But in Morphic Resonance, the Earth becomes more than landscape. It becomes a metaphor for consciousness itself: layered, interconnected and continually shaped by forces that cannot always be seen.
Perhaps catastrophe begins long before the moment we recognize it.
Perhaps history casts a shadow in both directions.
And perhaps what we call intuition, dread, déjà vu or premonition is simply the sensation of standing in the path of an approaching wave.
